The Working Group
The Local Use Vehicle National Policy Working Group, co-led by the Shared-Use Mobility Center and Cityfi, will address the challenges surrounding these emerging vehicle types. Made up of representatives from states, cities, and LUV manufacturers, the group will clarify vehicle definitions, identify regulatory gaps, and develop model frameworks that enable safe and scalable integration of LUVs into public rights of way.
The Working Group’s first tasks will center on defining shared goals, documenting and understanding state and local policy gaps, and identifying opportunities for alignment. By clarifying where rules already enable LUVs and where they create friction, we can build the foundation for consistent, scalable policy.
This is a chance for states and cities to lead. The work ahead will not prescribe one model but will surface practical solutions that reflect local priorities while creating national coherence. Together, we can ensure that right-sized vehicles become a safe, efficient, and accessible part of the transportation system.
